Dolly-Parton

Born on Jan. 19 1946 Locust Ridge Tenn into a poor family that would eventually consist of 12 children Dolly Parton learned early to escape the hardships of life through her vivid and broad imagination. The songs she wrote were composed before she was able to write or read. After 8 years of age, she got her first guitar. When she was 11 years old, she began to sing at the Knoxville Tennessee radio station. The first album she recorded was during the same year on Gold Band Records, a small label that was an independent. In high school she made herself known to the community, but her dream was greater. When she graduated from the high school in 1964, she moved immediately to Nashville. Dumb Blonde was her first record to chart for the first time on Monument Records. Porter Wagoner began looking for women to sing for his television show that was syndicated around the exact time. Parton became a member of Grand Ole Opry 1969 after contracting in 1969 with RCA Records. Parton quit the Wagoner's band in 1974 after her own hits such as Joshua Coat of Many Colors & Jolene oversold her collaborations. Parton following the breakup of their partnership with Wagoner, wrote"I'll Always Be Loved" by You and made it to No. It was the first time a song hit the top spot.
